Presenting Research: Graphics

Data visualization examples

You may need to create graphics for projects such as research posters and presentations, social media posts and campaigns, websites, and standalone infographics.

Consider your audience. You may need to use different imagery or varying levels of complexity, depending on the viewers you expect.

Use design principles to choose fonts, colors, and layout to create a cohesive design. What themes, emotions, or data do you want to convey? Experiment with different ways to achieve the effects you want.

Develop a plan. Consider not just how to create your graphic, but how you will share it. Be able to describe the rationale behind your choices in terms of your project goal and intended audience.

Work with what you have. You can do a lot with the free tools listed on this page.
