VIVA Open Grants

VIVA Open Course Grants

VIVA Open Course Grants support individuals and teams working in four categories:

  • Content Creation ($5,000-$50,000)
  • Open Pedagogy ($5,000-$10,000)
  • Open Ancillary Materials ($5,000-$30,000)
  • Large Scale Adoption ($4,000-$20,000)

VIVA now handles the publication work for content creation projects, including providing copyediting, book design, platform, and illustration services for awarded projects. 

Informational webinars will be held on November 15 and December 1 (registration required). Applications are due March 1, 2024. Questions? Contact vivaopen@gmu.edu.

Workshop & Review Opportunities

Get Started Using Open Textbooks (JMU Libraries)

This asynchronous online workshop will introduce you to open textbooks and allow you to explore existing open textbooks available for your courses. After you complete the workshop, you will be eligible to write a review of an open textbook and receive a $200 stipend funded by VIVA, Virginia’s Academic Library Consortium.

  • Please notify Aimee Gee that you intend to participate, and apply online by March 1, 2024.
  • You can complete this self-paced online workshop any time by March 10, 2024.
  • Textbook reviews will be due by April 21, 2024.
