How To Find A Book
How
Do I Get A Book I Need?
Look up the book in the Shenandoah University
Library’s online catalog.
·
From the Library homepage www.su.edu,
click the link to Online Catalog, and search the book by keyword or phrase, its
title or author.
·
If the book is in Su Library Collection, you
will see a call number for that book, this tells you where you will find the
book on the shelves. Call numbers A-H
are in the basement, I-Z on the second floor.
If the book is a reference book, you will find it on the first floor.
·
SU has two libraries – Smith Library and
Health Library. Please check to see
which library holds the book.
Book – Interlibrary Loan If the book is not held by the Library, you may request that it be borrowed from
another library through the
Interlibrary Loan Process.
·
To find a book which the Library does not own
you can go to World Cat (which is a
list of 179+ million records of documents owned by other libraries
world-wide. You can find World Cat under the list of Databases on the library homepage.
·
From the record for the book you can
immediately go to the SU Interlibrary Loan page by clicking on the link on the
top left hand corner of the page (ILL). Once you have the Interlibrary Loan page
on the screen, you will need to fill out the request form and submit it to the
Library.
·
If you already know the book you want to
borrow, you may go directly to the Interlibrary Loan page from the Library
homepage. Select the Book Delivery Form. Complete it and submit the form.
·
A book which is lent from another library
will be shipped to the SU Library. If
you are an off campus student, the book will then be mailed to you under the
condition that you return it to the SU Library by the designated date due. On
campus and area students are asked to come to the library to pick up
interlibrary loan books.
·
If the Interlibrary Loan book cannot be
shipped to you, you may request that the book’s table of contents be copied and
mailed to you. You may then select
chapters or sections of the book which you would like copied, and the library
staff will copy and mail those materials to you. We ask that you request no more than the
equivalent of one chapter.
·
Copies of book chapter and sections from
